Professor YKS Viswanath is a general surgeon, upper gastrointestinal, laparoscopic and endoscopic surgeon with more than 20 years of experience. He qualified in 1989 and trained in the Tyne and Tees regions and in Leeds. Prof Viswanath previously successfully led the Upper-Gastrointestinal oncology team and served as the Cancer Lead clinician for the trust managing various onco-specilties.
Prof Viswanath sees patients with a range of gastrointestinal conditions including hernias, gall stones, acid-reflux, hiatus hernia, achalasia, upper GI cancer. Prof Viswanath is an expert in advanced laparoscopic surgeries, endoscopies including dilatation, placements of stents. He established STRETTA (Endoscopic Anti-reflux Radio-frequency Treatment) center in the UK and introduced Restech pH studies to investigate and manage patients with acid reflux and LPR (cough, lumpy sensation in the throat, cranky voice).
Prof Viswanath is actively involved in teaching and training and a recognised national laparoscopic and endoscopic trainer. Professor holds 'Live' training courses. He is the author of numerous publications in the field and regularly presents nationally and internationally.
